What exactly is a sanctuary?

As a non-profit farm animal sanctuary, our priority is the physical and emotional well being of the rescued animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our animal residents always have a choice as to whether or not they want to interact with visitors and will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives. In contrast, the goal of a petting zoo is profit and entertainment, meaning that animals may be forced to be handled regardless of what they want and are often discarded when they are no longer profitable. By sharing the stories of our rescued residents, they are able to serve as animal ambassadors to help visitors learn more about the challenges animals like them face in our world and see these often misunderstood beings in a new light.

Charlie's Acres is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations and registration costs are tax deductible.

What should I expect?

We are a working farm animal sanctuary, so please expect to do some walking, potentially get dirty, and be exposed to the natural weather elements (rain, heat, wind). Also expect to meet some amazing farm animals and hear their incredible stories. Tours last between 75 and 90 minutes and involve about 1/2 mile of walking.

What should I wear?

If you would like to go into the animal pastures, please wear closed toe shoes. Boots are preferable, but any closed toe shoe will do. If you are wearing clothing that we do not think is safe to be with the animals, we may ask you to wait outside the pastures.

Tours of Charlie's Acres are offered rain or shine. We have barns and shelters along the tour route for cover as needed. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle in the summer months as it gets hot! We have filtered water on site, so you can refill it as needed. We have limited shade and coverings, so an umbrella and/or hat could be useful as well. Please do NOT bring any food or really yummy smelling items on your body or in your purse during the tour as our animals love to eat! Feel free to bring your camera and take pictures. The Napa Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a volunteer workday each month at one of our parks or landscape areas. These family-friendly workdays are a fun and productive way to help beautify our Napa park system. The common tasks include litter pickup, spreading mulch, cleaning play area equipment, weeding, planting trees and more!

Bring friends, team up with neighbors, and meet new people while helping to care for our parks! These family-friendly workdays are a fun and rewarding way to help improve a local park or community center through activities like litter removal, mulch spreading, cleaning playground equipment and picnic grills, weeding, and more. Gloves and hand tools will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own (no power tools, please). Children are welcome with adult supervision. Events take place rain or shine.

It’s time to plan your tour of OPEN STUDIOS NAPA VALLEY 2026.  Artist studios will be open September 19 – 20, and 26 – 27 from 10:00am to 5:00pm so you can view the artwork of local artists, see artist’s studios, watch demonstrations, discuss how the artwork is created directly with the artists, and purchase the art that you’ve fallen in love with.

Sonoma Sundays on the Plaza

This summer, Music in Place and the City of Sonoma invite you to soak up the sunshine, sip local wine, and dance to live music at the Sonoma Plaza Grinstead Amphitheater during Sonoma Sundays on the Plaza, a free concert series running June 7 through October 4, 2026.

It’s time to plan your tour of OPEN STUDIOS NAPA VALLEY 2026.  Artist studios will be open September 19 – 20, and 26 – 27 from 10:00am to 5:00pm so you can view the artwork of local artists, see artist’s studios, watch demonstrations, discuss how the artwork is created directly with the artists, and purchase the art that you’ve fallen in love with.

What exactly is a sanctuary?

As a non-profit farm animal sanctuary, our priority is the physical and emotional well being of the rescued animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our animal residents always have a choice as to whether or not they want to interact with visitors and will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives. In contrast, the goal of a petting zoo is profit and entertainment, meaning that animals may be forced to be handled regardless of what they want and are often discarded when they are no longer profitable. By sharing the stories of our rescued residents, they are able to serve as animal ambassadors to help visitors learn more about the challenges animals like them face in our world and see these often misunderstood beings in a new light.

Charlie's Acres is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations and registration costs are tax deductible.

What should I expect?

We are a working farm animal sanctuary, so please expect to do some walking, potentially get dirty, and be exposed to the natural weather elements (rain, heat, wind). Also expect to meet some amazing farm animals and hear their incredible stories. Tours last between 75 and 90 minutes and involve about 1/2 mile of walking.

What should I wear?

If you would like to go into the animal pastures, please wear closed toe shoes. Boots are preferable, but any closed toe shoe will do. If you are wearing clothing that we do not think is safe to be with the animals, we may ask you to wait outside the pastures.

Tours of Charlie's Acres are offered rain or shine. We have barns and shelters along the tour route for cover as needed. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle in the summer months as it gets hot! We have filtered water on site, so you can refill it as needed. We have limited shade and coverings, so an umbrella and/or hat could be useful as well. Please do NOT bring any food or really yummy smelling items on your body or in your purse during the tour as our animals love to eat! Feel free to bring your camera and take pictures. The annual Fall Faire will take place on Saturday, September 26th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm., offering visitors of all ages an engaging afternoon featuring fun and informational booths staffed by dedicated Master Gardeners and Community Partners. Hands-on demonstrations and talks range from improving your soil health to designing a pollinator-friendly garden, along with plenty of friendly gardening advice. For the second year, a plant sale will feature a diverse selection of ornamental plants and different varieties of winter vegetables, with all proceeds supporting Master Gardener programs. Annie's Lunch Box food truck and the Big Ranch Rounders will offer food and entertainment.

Sonoma Sundays on the Plaza

This summer, Music in Place and the City of Sonoma invite you to soak up the sunshine, sip local wine, and dance to live music at the Sonoma Plaza Grinstead Amphitheater during Sonoma Sundays on the Plaza, a free concert series running June 7 through October 4, 2026.

Sonoma Ecology Center’s annual Harvest Festival is a joyful, family-friendly gathering that brings our community together in one of Sonoma’s most beloved green spaces. The Harvest Festival is held at Sonoma Garden Park, a community garden and public oasis just a few minutes from downtown Sonoma, stewarded by Sonoma Ecology Center. The Fairfield Police Department, Fire Department, and The City of Fairfield will be celebrating National Night Out Tuesday, October 6th, 2026. National Night Out is a program designed to promote police/community partnerships and heighten crime prevention awareness to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts. i.e. Neighborhood Watch.

National Night Out is designed to:

• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.

• Heighten crime prevention awareness.

• Generate support for, and participation in, local crime prevention efforts.

• Build connections within the community and get to know your neighbors!

Napa's First Annual 16-Inch Softball Tournament @ Kiwanis Park

Step up to the plate for a big-league kind of fun! Napa is excited to host its first-ever Chicago Big Softball Tournament, featuring the iconic 16’’ softball for an unforgettable summer showdown. Whether you’re swinging for the fences or just in it for the laughs, this tournament is all about friendly competition, great food, and even better company.

No equipment needed, just rally 10–12 friends to form a team, and get ready for a full day of softball, camaraderie, and summer vibes.

The Napa Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a volunteer workday each month at one of our parks or landscape areas. These family-friendly workdays are a fun and productive way to help beautify our Napa park system. The common tasks include litter pickup, spreading mulch, cleaning play area equipment, weeding, planting trees and more!

Bring friends, team up with neighbors, and meet new people while helping to care for our parks! These family-friendly workdays are a fun and rewarding way to help improve a local park or community center through activities like litter removal, mulch spreading, cleaning playground equipment and picnic grills, weeding, and more. Gloves and hand tools will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own (no power tools, please). Children are welcome with adult supervision. Events take place rain or shine.

Farm Open House is a self-guided experience for all ages. During your visit, guests can:

Napa Farmers Market

Visit the Napa Farmers Market, where local farmers showcase fresh produce. Bring your kids for shopping, sampling, and community support. Enjoy a tasty meal with options like fresh fruit, warm pastries, or breakfast sandwiches made with local ingredients. While sipping coffee, let the kids explore in season produce and meet the farmers. Make it a tradition and foster your kids' appreciation for fresh food and local farming!

Days: Saturday (year-round) and Tuesday (April 7 – December 22), rain or shine

Hours: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Napa Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a volunteer workday each month at one of our parks or landscape areas. These family-friendly workdays are a fun and productive way to help beautify our Napa park system. The common tasks include litter pickup, spreading mulch, cleaning play area equipment, weeding, planting trees and more!

Bring friends, team up with neighbors, and meet new people while helping to care for our parks! These family-friendly workdays are a fun and rewarding way to help improve a local park or community center through activities like litter removal, mulch spreading, cleaning playground equipment and picnic grills, weeding, and more. Gloves and hand tools will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own (no power tools, please). Children are welcome with adult supervision. Events take place rain or shine.

Please note: While our community tours are open to all ages, private tours are strongly recommended for families with young children to enable us to better adjust the pacing and content of the tour for them.

No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. If the suggested donation of $25/adult and $15/child is not in your budget, please contact us by email at info@charliesacres.org or by text message at 707-204-0020. We will reply to your message with a discount code you can use to waive the cost. Please be sure to still reserve your spots so that we know to expect you and to ensure we don't go over group capacity.

What exactly is a sanctuary?

As a non-profit farm animal sanctuary, our priority is the physical and emotional well being of the rescued animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our animal residents always have a choice as to whether or not they want to interact with visitors and will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives. In contrast, the goal of a petting zoo is profit and entertainment, meaning that animals may be forced to be handled regardless of what they want and are often discarded when they are no longer profitable. By sharing the stories of our rescued residents, they are able to serve as animal ambassadors to help visitors learn more about the challenges animals like them face in our world and see these often misunderstood beings in a new light.

Charlie's Acres is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations and registration costs are tax deductible.

What should I expect?

We are a working farm animal sanctuary, so please expect to do some walking, potentially get dirty, and be exposed to the natural weather elements (rain, heat, wind). Also expect to meet some amazing farm animals and hear their incredible stories. Tours last between 75 and 90 minutes and involve about 1/2 mile of walking.

What should I wear?

If you would like to go into the animal pastures, please wear closed toe shoes. Boots are preferable, but any closed toe shoe will do. If you are wearing clothing that we do not think is safe to be with the animals, we may ask you to wait outside the pastures.

Tours of Charlie's Acres are offered rain or shine. We have barns and shelters along the tour route for cover as needed. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle in the summer months as it gets hot! We have filtered water on site, so you can refill it as needed. We have limited shade and coverings, so an umbrella and/or hat could be useful as well. Please do NOT bring any food or really yummy smelling items on your body or in your purse during the tour as our animals love to eat! Feel free to bring your camera and take pictures.
