Art Projects & DIY Crafts

Colorful rocks painted to look like fruits and vegetables made by kids during a rainy day craft actifity

Simple and fun kids craft idea: paint rocks with bright colors and creative designs. A perfect family activity for Napa Valley rainy days.

Try a Glue Table / Cardboard Box at Home

A glue table is a simple, creative way for kids to explore their imagination — just glue scraps, buttons, bottle tops, corks, and other odds and ends onto a surface and let them create! You don’t even need a fancy table; a cardboard box works perfectly. It’s a fun, low-stress activity that turns things you were about to toss into a hands-on art adventure for little ones. A little inspiration here!

Bonus: There’s finally a purpose for all those little treasures that keep sneaking their way into the house!

Go for a Nature Walk

Grab your rain boots, umbrella, and a little basket for a fun outdoor adventure! Jump and splash, and then let your little ones collect rocks, sticks, and leaves to use in creative projects at home. Wash and paint the rocks to make cute paperweights, or glue sticks and leaves together to create magical nature wands. It’s a fun, hands-on way to explore the outdoors and spark creativity … especially on a rainy day!

Build a Fort

Use pillows, chairs, blankets, and boxes to create a fort and fill it with books and activity pages. Add in some glow sticks and a flashlight, and you may not see them again until snack time! Feeling extra creative? Make a mini obstacle course in your living room. Kids can crawl, jump, and climb safely while burning off that extra energy on a rainy day. You can even time them or add silly challenges to make it extra fun for the whole family.

Bluey’s Famous: Keepy Uppy Balloon Game

This is our secret all-season, travel and at home parenting hack: always have a balloon on hand! Blow it up and now you have the very best, simple game that can be a single or multiple-player solution for rainy days (or sunny / windy / snowy days too). We also tap into the interactive video game when it’s time for a bit of low-volume screen time.

Rainy Day Parenting Tip: Arrange a Playdate!

Rainy days don’t have to feel long or boring — here’s a little trick: invite another family over or meet at a welcoming indoor spot! While the kids are busy playing, crafting, or exploring, parents get a chance to chat, swap stories, and share a few laughs.

And DO NOT worry about having a perfectly tidy house, fancy snacks, or Pinterest-worthy activities — trust us: any parent would be delighted just to spend time together and reap the shared benefits of group play-time.
